What Causes Liver Spots

Condition: Liver Spots

What causes liver spots?
Liver spot causes.
"Liver spots" is a "catch-all" term that includes many things. As we age, we begin to show signs of aging with dark spots, light spots, bumps, tags, and crusty and other skin lesions. Still, the primary categories are usually related to either pigment changes to our skin or growths on our skin.

Brown liver spots on skin
Liver spots are the result of the skin's defence mechanism against over-exposure to the sun. When a person has been in the sun for a long period, unprotected, the pigments pool to some spots to protect the skin, thus leaving an uneven brown patch.

Most of the pigment skin changes happen are a result of oxidation that occurs early in life. Melanocytes, which provide our coloring, are the sites where pigment is produced. Oxidation, especially from sun, can cause these melanocytes to be affected and create a condition later in life that causes a cluster of pigment, or... at the other extreme, a complete loss of pigment, in an area of skin.

Other names for pigment Liver spots (they are now known to have nothing to do with the liver), are age spots Lentigos, and Senile Lentigines. These dark pigment areas of the skin are pigment clusters that are very common after the age of 40. They often occur on the backs of the hands, on the forearms, shoulder, face, and forehead where exposure to the sunlight's radiation. They are usually harmless and painless, but they may affect the cosmetic appearance of the skin.

Liver spots on abdomen, legs & other areas normally not exposed to the sun are a little more unusual and may be a Skin Pigment Change Warning Sign.

Infant liver spots
Some pigmentation conditions tend to run in families, happening more frequently in fair-skinned individuals. There is also a common cause – overexposure to the sun and unprotected exposure.  If you or your child do not fit into one of the categories (or you have any of the Skin Pigment Change Warnings see your doctor.

The Wellness Solution

Total Oxidation Management can help prevent and often diminish all of these conditions. As always, strict attention should be given to these unusual growths on the skin. However, unless a physician has determined there is cause for immediate removal, you may find that attacking the affected area twice a day, morning and night after every cleansing-with EC Mode Vitamin C Serum followed by EC Mode Hydro-Driver Moisturizer can make a significant difference in the appearance and the discomfort of the condition. Cover up liver spots may well be your best course of action. Cover up with clothing, Sunscreen and cover liver spots with Vitamin C Serum & Vitamin E (Hydro-Driver Moisturizer).

Using acid lemon to remove liver spots. Again it's the Vitamin C and the acid from the lemon exfoliating the skin. The EC Mode Vitamin C Serum is a much better approach to controlling liver spots.

The EC Mode wellness approach to liver spots uses nature's own vitamins and minerals to:

  • Scavenge oxidizing free radicals from the sun's ultraviolet rays that darken skin pigment causing liver spots.
  • Normalize exfoliation of skin to improve skin clarity.
  • Provide a barrier preventing the formation of free radicals.
  • Gently acidify the natural ph balance of the skin.
  • Increase collagen synthesis for new cell growth.

Liver spots + bergamot:
One Doctor indicates when perfumes or lotions containing musk or bergamot oil, are applied to sun-exposed areas, they can produce liver spots.
Liver spots cure
is a bit of a misnomer. Liver spots should be thought of  more as an an on going or "chronic" problem and yes, can be treated.
